Meta Model — Challenging Distortions

The Concept

The Meta Model identifies language patterns that reflect and reinforce limiting thinking. Challenging them with precision questions restructures the underlying belief.

The Practice

    Generalizations (always/never/everyone/no one): "I always mess up presentations." → "Always? Has there been one time it went well?"

  2. 2

    Deletions (missing information): "I'm not good enough." → "Not good enough for what specifically? Compared to whom?"

  3. 3

    Distortions (mind-reading, cause-effect): "She's upset because of me." → "How do you know that? What's your evidence?"

  4. 4

    Exercise: Write 3 negative self-statements. Identify the distortion type. Apply the Meta Model question. Notice what shifts.

Precision questioning activates the left hemisphere's language centers to re-examine the right hemisphere's pattern-matched emotional conclusions.

Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana)

The Concept

Balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain; calming and clarifying simultaneously.

Guided Sequence

Use right hand: thumb closes right nostril, ring finger closes left nostril

Close right nostril. Inhale slowly through left nostril: 4 counts

Close both. Hold: 4 counts

Open right nostril. Exhale slowly through right: 4 counts

Inhale through right: 4 counts

Close both. Hold: 4 counts

Open left. Exhale through left: 4 counts
