Practice 2 of 3 · Breathwork
Coherence Breathing (5.5 Rhythm)
The Concept
The optimal breathing rhythm for heart rate variability — creates full cardiovascular and respiratory coherence.
When to use: Daily maintenance practice — morning or before bed. This is the rhythm to make a daily habit.
Guided Sequence
Inhale: 5.5 counts (through nose)
Exhale: 5.5 counts (through nose or mouth)
Target 5.5 breaths per minute
Continue for 5–10 minutes
5.5 breaths per minute creates resonance between the cardiovascular and respiratory systems — this coherence state is associated with reduced cortisol, improved focus, and emotional regulation.
